Is Post Exhibition Depression Real?

To: Emerging Artists

Is the myth of the POST EXHIBITION DEPRESSION true? What do other people think?

I didn’t find it so myself, but I certainly needed a break to regroup and find my next inspiration point. Well, I knew that it would always be nature that would inspire me, but exactly what form would it take?

A few days of rest and the old creativity kicked in- helped by the next group exhibition two weeks later, on the Central Coast.

Maybe the trick is to always look beyond that exhibition or project, so that you already have something lined up to move forward to.

Let’s face it; there are a myriad of things that can be done connected with your art practice. It’s not just about the actual painting, it can be tidying up the studio, sorting and filing old pieces that you may want to cut down and use for smaller works. I spend a lot of time drawing as you know and before I plan the next exhibition I’ll write poetry for it, choose the music for it and draw mock up ideas of paintings each with three different compositions. Then I might experiment with new recipes for my Wild Bush Inks so that I’m constantly growing my choices of inks to use as well as exploring new colour combinations with the ones I have.

I guess it’s about finding what works the best for you. Some people want to launch into the next project straight away and others need to take time – out, to regroup and plan.

Why not experiment with both and find out which method works best for you.

Find out which method makes you flourish.xxx
